I don't think it's just a matter of "empty"
auctions... where an auction would ask you not to
bid but to visit a site instead. The reason is a
lot more corperate than that.
ADVERTISING COSTS MONEY! eBay sellers are
paying for a block of internet space to sell
their item, not for to advertise their site!
Think about it - why do you think "free" internet
providers exist??? It's because the banner space
costs a fortune!!! How else can they make money?
Ebay is kicking themselves in the pants since
they never capitalized on that!
I wouldn't be surprised if eBay soon creates a
cost for site advertising. I think they are just
starting to realize that they have been giving a
lot of internet seller sites a free ride, so to
speak.
I do agree, it does suck that you cannot
advertise your website as a place to buy more
stuff. But if you think about it, you are really
not paying for that type of space to begin with.
