it is to lose a pet 

but to XoXoX... i don't mean to belittle 
ryochan's loss in any way, but the comment that 
the dog would not live any longer if it had been 
your cat - the cat was in the neighbors yard. my 
dog would have killed any cat that wandered into 
our backyard. it is just the nature of some dogs. 
and i have 2 cats, so it's not as if he's been 
taught to hate them. :-p it's just an unknown 
animal in his territory.
