Yes, I've seen this happen, and it sucks. The other party
must have e-mailed with an outrageous price and they decided
to go for it. While it might be a happy ending for the seller
and that buyer, cancelling auctions (and I know it's well 
within the EBay sellers' rights to do so) like that just 
seems like bad, bad business practice. I can't help but feel
it's particularly rude of the buyer to e-mail outside of the
auction like that - if they wanted it so badly, their high 
proxy bid would have won anyway!!! ;_; Or, the seller 
simply did not know how to handle something like that.
