I myself have used the deputy service both for yahoo japan
and for ordering from japanese web sites... and have been
very pleased with the speed and service recieved, just to
vouch for it. But now that it is common knowledge (I like
the others here didnt talk about it because I felt
like "if it's important enough to them, they can follow the
link themselves") it raises an issue (one that probably
needs to be discussed with mr. sato): What happens (as it
inevitably will) when 2 people both want the same cel on
yahoo japan? I mean.. you cant bid against eachother since
he places the bid for you, but otherwise how do you resolve
who gets the cel? I have no problem with the fact that if
one person sends him a max bid of 10000(yen) and another
of 12000 the cel might still only go for 5000 and not 10000 as it would if they bid directly against eachother,
since the seller closed their auction to foreign bids and
wouldnt be getting either of them if this service wasnt
available..but what bothers me is that this means one of
two solutions is going to occur:
A- the person who sends the highest bid to the deputy
service is the one that is bid for, and regardless of how
much under that max bid they sent the cel sells for, they
are the one who gets it. The problem with this becomes
there is nothing to prevent someone from giving an
absolutely insane high bid, knowing that chances are good
they will never have to pay that much.
B- the first person to send in a request for the cel is the
one bid for. The problem with this becomes what if the
person who sends in the request had a very low max bid and
gets outbid... someone else might have had a higher one
and might have won the auction if they had gotten their bid in first. not only that but it turns yahoo japan into a
race (not that getting cels from other store type sources
isn't, but you see my point) I'm not expecting anyone here
to really do anything about this issue, since ultimately
its up to mr. sato, but I was just wondering if anyone
could think of some good suggestions.
