No, I'm not saying drawing fanart itself is bad - I look
at it like fansubs (which are generally good, except for
those idiots that are selling those realvideo Kenshin rips
on CD on EBay - but let's not get into that).
:P Hell, maybe I should consider selling my own stuff.
I also suppose that I haven't been sufficiently impressed
with fanart to think it deserves money. Perhaps I simply
haven't been blessed to find a Web site featuring truly
professional level work, although a few of the sites
featured here
http://well-of-souls.com/links/artlinks.html
are impressive (speaking from a consumer point of view -
I wouldn't get into a contest with these people!). Actually,
a co-worker of mine who has a degree in graphic art said
something like "60-75% different," but I've never been able
to fully understand copylaw.
I agree about the tracing thing. Selling *that* would be
silly. At the same time I think there are many naive
people out there who don't understand some of these things
(c'mon, I once spoke with someone who paid over $100 for a
CHROMA cel which was still being produced commercially.
Poor bastard :P).
SO how much money would you bid on a fanart cel?
(How much has anyone paid for a fanart cel? Is there an
"ethical" limit to how much you would spend? Can we see
some scans of what you consider fanart worth paying for?)
Just curious ..
PS: umm....please.... use line breaks when replying on this
forum. Horizontal scrolling is a pain in Thor's bunghole...
