I would not accept a personal check either, when someone who purchased an item from me on eBay sent a personal check from Canada my bank wanted to charge me a 15.00 fee to cash it. o_O Your best bet is to take either an international postal money order, or as Yann suggested a cashiers check or wire transfer.
