Wait don't put words in my mouth. I didn't say that they shouldn't do that. I respect their decision. Hopefully it doesn't cost them too much lost business. Remember I was trying to help people so no one else ended up being forced to buy a cel that they didn't really want. For myself I use to put things in my basket and think about them for a few minutes. Those minutes gave me the security to know I was getting the right cel. I was secure that I had some time to make sure I was getting the exact cel I wanted. If there are 7 new Hitomi cels it is nice to have the chance to check and make sure this is really the one you want to spend money on. This was really important when Taro had many new series and you needed to search several different ones before deciding where to spend your hard earned money. Having the safety net of the cart was great. The downside was that their cart system was flawed. If your browser crashed or their site locked up (which happen often as the server tried to deal with a heavy load of requests) the cel would suddenly disappear. It wouldn't be in your cart or in their inventory for approximately one day. If they could have corrected this and done what their system was suppose to do which was to automatically pull things out of the carts and put them back into inventory after a couple of hours then there wouldn't have been a problem. Cels would go back into circulation. Long term all the good cels got sold anyway so I really don't get the new system. Even pretending that people hoarded cels in their cart that only lasted so long and the next day the cels would again be available if they hadn't been purchased. Worst case it might have taken an extra day or so before they matched up the cel with a buyer who truly wanted and would pay for the cel. I don't trust the new cart system because I've had Taro tell me I had things in my cart after I had returned them to inventory. I even had Stephen email me asking me if I wanted a cel that was in my cart. I hadn't logged on to Taro in a couple of days and so I hadn't even been online to put that cel in my cart! So the new system in my vision is even more dangerous. Your web browser hiccups and suddenly you are required to buy a $500 cel. I've had times where my system response was slow. I could easily see me thinking I was clicking on the back button while the window pane had actually moved and now suddenly I've ended up clicking on BUY NOW. The result of all this is Anime Taro can do business in whatever way they want. I respect that. I disagree with why they are doing it. Fixing their cart system so things can't be held for more than 30 minutes would be a better option in my opinion ... but hey they can do whatever they want. I can't think of any other business where you aren't given the chance to back out of a decision. Can you imagine how people would scream if Amazon.com removed the option to remove something from the cart? How about if etoys didn't let you remove that pikachu because your son told you he actually wanted a snarfblat? Heck you can even retract a bid on ebay. But the real moral of the story is that I was giving a suggestion how people could keep from being forced to buy a cel they didn't want ... so please don't bite my head off for trying to give a bit of advice that might have saved the original poster over $100. |
