It's pretty simple to find Anime World Star. You need to
get off at Nakano Station, which can be reached by riding either the
JR (Japan Railways) or Tozai Line Subway.
Its probably easiest if you take the JR. Using the Yamanote (loop)
line (JR owned), head towards Shinjuku (the Yamanote trains are silver
and have a light, lime green stripe on them). Shinjuku is one of the largest
train stations, and is quite crowded. There are many different exits
at this station, so it's easy to get lost. Don't exit the station
though. Simply transfer to the Chuo Line (which is also JR owned).
The Chuo line trains are either all orange color, all yellow color,
or silver with a yellow stripe. Take any one of those that is he
ading towards Nakano, Tachikawa, Mitaka, etc.) They will all stop
at Nakano on the way.
At Nakano, the station has two exits. You need to exit to the no
rth. From the platform, you should be able to see a busy shopping
area to one side of the station, that has a covered walkway. The
covering is a yellow metal frame with semi-transparent glass. It
sort of reminds me of McDonalds. That is the side that you need
to head towards. Once out of the station, walk down that shopping
arcade that I was just talking about. Keep walking all the way u
p the arcade. You will then enter a building called Broadway Naka
no which is essentially a continuation of the shopping arcade. En
ter the building, and take the escalator up that you will see on y
our right. It takes you directly to the 3rd floor, where Anime Wo
rld Star is located. AWS has two stores open, both of which are o
n the 3rd floor. One is located on the central corridor, and the
other is located on the right corridor.
AWS is closed on Wednesdays. Also, on Tuesdays you can get 10% off
cels. Both stores accept credit cards, but only for over 10,000 yen
(approx. $100 US). Also, if it is Tuesday and you want to get the
10% off discount, you cannot pay by credit card.
In Nakano, also check out Anime Shop Commit (2nd floor), Anime Shop
Zero(4th f.), and Mandarake (4th floor). To get to the 2nd and 4th
floors, you need to take the stairs. Mandarake has 5 or so stores
here, but only the 4th floor one has some cels. You'll see display
cases of cels outside of it, which will indicate that they have cels,
although not many. Commit accepts credit cards, but I don't know
if they have a minimum amount or not.
Also in Nakano, on the 3rd floor is Fujiya Avic, where you can find
lots of used LDs and some used CDs for cheap. They have a lot of
LDs for 900 yen or 1900 yen, as well as more expensive ones too. |
