ah, the canoscan--that's what i've got too.  it's pretty good
for a $30 scanner, i think!
i've never had problems with reds before, or the greys, but
white things always come out looking kinda shadowy.  it also
can't scan flesh tones right, but it doesn't look bad.

what i do, when i have the time, is scan the cel and then
fix it up in paint shop pro.  
other than that, i don't have any other advice.  gomen ^^>.
