well, actually it was eps. 22-24 that were re-done, and the
old existing ones for the japanese release does not really
consist of many cels. mostly one-framers and colored pencil
pictures.  And even though GAINAX cares a slight bit more 
about their foreign fans than others, the re-doing of the eps was due 
to the large complaint of the Japanese viewers. They got it
as well, as I recall, but I may be wrong.  Eps. 25-26 are actually "The end of evangelion" movie. ep 25 is "AIR" and 
ep. 26 is "My pure heart for you"  
So.. basically, I have not personally seen the redo of 22-24,
but it should be the one with the cels, because I'm sure they
reused the cels that were in the original eps.  NOW for the
colored pencil animation and flying lettering... I wouldnt
mind getting the colored pencil pics, but the letters...
I'll pass. ^_^
