I collect art. Some of the stuff i've bought over the years
 is available in reproduction (as posters, magazines, album
 covers, etc.). A reproduction made by a machine is fine, but
 something made by hand is different. It may be just a copy
 of an original but it still has a certain personal touch
 given to it by the artist. It also looks better than a
 print. The main reason, however, is demand. Neon Genisis
 cels simply aren't available, for whatever reason, and this 
is the only (legal) way to get them now. Even if they were
 available they would be way out of my price range. I have 
to admit though, I would still rather have the real thing. 
The reproductions will plummet in value if the real ones get
 released, but for now people are willing to pay.
