All right... I hadn't seen the movie in a while anyway,
so I sat down and watched it.  First off, after seeing so
many wonderful, creative plots throughout the years,
I was a little dismayed at the script itself.  :P  Someone
PLEASE cut that annoying "brittish-sounding" knight from
the story!  Please!!

Okay... now on that pencil background... it's actually
Peter Dickenson's study/library.  The table w/ other stuff, stand w/book, and other artifacts are only in Peter's 
study, while (in Peter's "fantasy," ie. his trip to the
Magic Realm) Carolinus's study is a mirror of his own
(with telescope and books) missing a few things (table w/
typewriter or games or both, book with stand, etc)... You 
can see the background created from this pencil especially
at the end, when the movie does a "trip through" Peter's study and shows the game board in more detail.

Well, I hope I at least "furthered a conversation" here...
