'Way back in the day, "giclee" referred to a
specific kind of print. It was done on a high-end
printer, with 7 different inks. They took a long
time to print--- you might be able to only print
one per day--- but that same slowness allowed the
printing process to capture far more detail than
the ordinary printing process did. Nowadays,
however, technology has improved to the point
that there are somewhat cheaper, faster printing
processes that are able to emulate the quality of
the originals. So modern-day giclees are usually
printed with 6 inks, or occasionally 4, but use
of the term generally connotates a high-quality
print.
So, yes. In the end, it's just an inkjet print...
but it's not to be confused with the cheapie
little inkjet printer that comes with your
computer. ^_^ Giclee's can sometimes go for $300
or more... so $200 certainly isn't unheard of. |
