If I remember correctly, there were some 
copyright problems between Kyoko Tsuchiya and 
Movic concerning the new Gluhen designs. So the 
Gluhen designs Tsuchiya-sensei did were dumped 
aside and were replaced by these new ones. I 
totally agree with you about these new designs. 
The new Aya is okay, but as for the others...
