ooh, you make me tempted to track those novels 
down.  

as for poor Zenigata, he caught Lupin III in one 
of the TV episodes.  he spent a year waiting for 
Lupin's execution not gloating, but as a bundle 
of nerves, expecting Lupin to escape at any 
time.  when Lupin finally did, Zenigata was 
ecstatic.  without the thief loose to chase, his 
life was pathetic and devoid of purpose.
