Ruby Moon is an it, just like Ashura in RG Veda.
A default gender was used in the story since 
usually don't call things an it (he as in mankind 
being used for both men & women).  Since Ruby Moon 
is an it, using she is as good as using he.  I 
call both Ruby Moon & Ashura she due to behavior, 
as I call Yue a he when he is an it also due to 
actions.
