I only have a sales page (at times with a good
third of my collection on sale), since I don't
have the time nor energy to post a full
gallery...
But after hearing a few of the stories above
about the grief some web masters received
because of their online galleries, I can
sympathize greatly.
Even when I first posted my sales page, and it
was my first time ever creating one... some
really immature and nasty person proceeded to
berate me on the JACML mailing list accusing me
of stealing a GIF from her site, although:
[1] The image was not even of a cel belonging to
this person; it was just an artbook image from a
copyrighted anime (Ranma 1/2) and belonged to
the official license holder (Viz), and therefore
she had no right to call or claim it her own.
Just because she made an animated GIF directly
off copyrighted art still shouldn't grant her
rights over that copyrighted image.
(And c'mon; it was just a GIF...)
[2] Someone supplied me that GIF and even they
didn't know where it originally came from; so I
was accused of image-stealing based upon false
assumption and didn't even get a chance to
defend nor explain myself.
[3] Worst of all, I was apalled by the lack of
maturity on the part of angry person. She
should've e-mailed me in private and allowed us
to handle this very minor (and EASILY
correctable) issue as adults rather than make
false assumptions and try to smear me on a
public mailing list.
I immediately apologized for my "mistake" (which
turned out that I didn't really have anything to
be at fault for) and fixed the so-
called "problem". Nevertheless, I was a little
nervous that others already formed a bad
impression of me over something I had no control
over.
In the end, though, I was very thankful that
practically the entire JACML list supported my
side of the debate. Ultimately, the person who
chewed me out got some of her own medicine. In
fact, the unwarranted display of protest did not
endear herself to a lot of people on JACML, I
would imagine.
People who have dealt with me know that I am a
very easy-going guy who is willing to go the
extra mile for them. As an example, for people
who bought cels for me, I've tried to add extra
goodies to their cel packages whenever I could +
I offered to e-mail scans and thumbnails of the
cels they bought from me. And I do my best to
resolve any difficulties or problems that may
pop up.
But nonetheless it's really tough to resolve
problems amiably when you aren't even given the
chance to do so. |
