Hello, I'm a newbie here and in collecting cels.
I started 2 months ago and am off to a fast
start, I already have over 40 cels. I asked all
around and received so many different answers to
this question that none of them satisfies my
question.
I am aware that cels can be distributed in a
variety of different ways. Let me beg the
question again: How are cels released to the
public? Do production studios go to some anime
convention and sell them out right? Are they
sold only to private parties with connections?
Are all the cels of the entire animation sold?
I've also heard that in general more of the cels
from Japan anime are released than are the
American shows. I've also heard that much of the
Disney cels are kept by Disney and only a very
very small percentage is ever released.
I'm beginning to digress here a bit. Although it
would be interesting to know if all cels of a
particular show are sold out right or not, my
main question is how does the source make itself
available? Assuming that one has some major
financial resources available - are the cels
sold outright in bulk to a wholesale dealer
assuming he has to buy them all and can not
cherry pick'em. I've visited quite a few sites
and some dealers claim to have an "in" or
connection to a source. Just what the hell is
this suppose to mean? Does this mean the studio
sells directly to this dealer?
OK the real question I'm begging is this: Say
I'm an ordinary Joe with some bucks to buy say
roughly 30,000 cels in a particular show
(assuming 22 cels per second * 60 seconds * 25
minutes) - can I call up Bandai Entertainment
and say - hey I want to buy all the cels from a
particular show? Logically thinking - I'm sure a
production studios will not give cels away for
free if they can sell them - obviously this
forum alone show serve as testimony that there
is a viable market to sell this stuff. (Granted
there is probably alot of junk cels in a show of
30,000+ cels)
