Where to look to compare... (Thu Sep 26 07:16:33 2002 )

Hi J-Decker,

I thought I'd speak up since I was the one who
sold you the cel. ^_^

Usually when matching cels to screenshots or
artbook pics, a good way to see if they match up
is to check places where the shading changes.
However, on this cel, there's a little giveaway.

If you take a look at Tasuki's upper hand in the
cel, you'll notice some correction lines painted
onto the front of the cel, extending and
connecting some of the lines in his palm.

Now, in the anime, when this cel appears, you
can't even see his hand -- it's out of the shot.
So, why would there be correction lines painted
on a part of the cel that doesn't even appear?

If you look closely at the book, you'll see that
the same lines (and their occasional mistakes)
appear in the photograph of the cel. They're
quite distinctive, and they appeared to match
exactly the last time I compared the two. It's
my assumption that the correction lines were
added to the cel when it was photographed for
the book, to make the entire cel more
aesthetically pleasing.

You may not be able to see the lines in the photo
of the page that you have, and I regret to report
that I no longer own my copy of the book either.
But if you know someone who has it who can scan
the page for you, or if you pick up a copy of the
book somewhere, you'll see the same lines on the
cel in the book.

Take care,

zenjirou
