Ah Yes, Za Gold a fullfillment of an anthlete's
dream. I remember that movie well. Contessa is
still one of my favorites, and she still keeps me
up nights. I had gone crazy looking for
Animalympic merchandise, hoping I could find
something with her image on it. The only 1 thing
I saw was a board game tittled "Animalympics" And
although the box said that this game is not in
association with Lisberger studios or HBO etc.
All the characters from the movie were on the
box. Of course I had only seen it once. Anyway I
had to do something to satisfy my high demand for
Contessa, so I simply had to temporarily
subscribe to the Disney Channel at the time just
so I can videotape the movie, and attempt to
sketch her from the tv. She was difficult to
draw, but with alot of practice, I can draw her
well, and even fullfilled my personal fantasies
by drawing her. I believe she was Italian and
besides her good looks, her accent had made my
heart skip a beat.
Surprisingly the movie was not availalbe on
home video, untill one day, I saw it being sold
in Walmart, and the company that made it was UAV
Gold not Lisberger. Possibly a rip off? Anyway, I
often hoped that the movie will be available on
DVD or at least a few fun merchandised products
such as trading cards, figurines etc. I was young
and growing up during the 1970's so all that love
and sex messages stuck with me, even though I was
young. I wonder how Lisberger was able to come up
with the female animal characters dressed so sexy
and slim? He must have had a great sense of
imagination and creativity. I chuckle at the
Playbird magazine that had featured Dorthy
Tournell in a playboy outfit on the front cover.
A very 70ish movie and I often have mixed
memories and think back to my childhood during
the 70's when I watch the movie.
