Are you referring to Genma Taisen? (a.k.a. 
Harmageddon?)

If that's the case, Gen means something like 
phantom and Ma is demon.  It refers to the 
collective evil in the story.  It's a word made 
up for the sci fi novel turned manga/anime.

(Taisen means great war.)
