Recently on YJ I bought a lot of what I thought
would be four CCS sketches of Syaoran during the
last scene of Episode 69, just before he makes
his big admission to Sakura. They weren't
expensive, but when I got the lot I was surprised
to find eight sketches, two each of four poses,
none of them dougas. Gengas? But then why two
of each (not identical either).
I consulted Yann's faq, which says:
A genga is never used directly to make a cel
and is usually not available for sale. It's also
possible to find drafts of genga (rough sketch)
but usually they are not available on the market.
The problem is that neither one of the sketches
looks like the example Yann gives of a rough
sketch. Both are carefully done finished
images. One is on lightweight greenish paper,
while the other is heavier white paper.
The "green" sketches contain penciled
annotations, while the "white" sketches often
contain careful notes in red ink made with a fine-
tipped pen.
That suggests that the "green" is a rough sketch
while the "white" is the finished genga. But
the "green" paper is thin enough to be tracing
paper and often shows additions and elaborations
to the "white," so I think that the "greens" must
be the later sketches. But the "whites" are
hardly "rough" sketches.
Does anyone know just what my "green" and "white"
sketches are and what their relationships are to
gengas and dougas?
As responses to this message I will post an
example each of my "green" and "white" sketches.
