I have *very* few cels for which I don't know (or 
haven't seen) the show. Of those, only four were 
actually bought by me -- others were freebies 
that amused me or gifts. That said, several times 
it was interest in the cels that led me to watch 
the show in question, and then I started buying 
cels from it. ^_^

Some shows' cels are too scarce to shop for 
scene, or even specific characters. But where 
that's not the case, my choice is for knowing and 
caring about the scenes and characters. If I can 
have them, I definitely like very beautiful cels! 
But scene usually still reigns supreme. If one 
cel is only gorgeous, it can't compete with 
another from a scene that I adore.

I sometimes shop for specific characters also. In 
that case, I don't necessarily have to know the 
scene (although I usually do), but I gravitate to 
cels with the "feel" of the character. Where the 
pose or composition manages to express the nature 
of the character. For this kind of thing, A-grade 
portrait shots (although beautiful) are usually 
worthless because you need more expressive cels.

So it isn't all about looks, but it isn't all 
about scene either. Kind of a tightrope walk 
between the two. ^_^
