I never cropped a first image...all I have ever 
ever done with the dang thing is just hit the 
button marked 'scan'. 

But I have gotten a variety of advice, so I'll 
look into the issue when I next go home (prob 
thanksgiving)

Also, there is a scanner here at school that I 
have never used. If I get the time I might try 
it out on that one, maybe it won't do what my 
scanner does.....
