Actually, the promotional materials for his work
make a rant unnecessary. E.g.,
"An astonishing transformation takes place when
Thomas Kinkade's ideas and memories are
transferred from the man's mind to his paintbrush
and then finally to the canvas itself. The
results of this astounding process are clearly
evident every time you look at a Thomas Kinkade
painting. What was previously just a blank white
surface turns into a work of art so real that you
can't believe what you're seeing."
[That's true: most of my cels are so obviously
figments of my imagination that I have no trouble
at all believing that I'm looking at them.]
"Each print is a genuine canvas reproduction
created with the same methods and materials used
by Kinkade to create many of his original
paintings. Each of the prints comes complete with
a Certificate of Authenticity that identifies its
status as a First Edition, Second Edition, etc.
The Certificate also serves as a guarantee that
your reproduction is a "Genuine Kinkade" and
matches the original painting to the artist's
specification."
[Prices start at $219 (plus custom framing and
shipping) and go well into the $1000-2000 range
for a "genuine reproduction" on canvas that is
identical to the canvas Kinkade used as
the base for his original painting! The
Certificate (is that at least authentically
signed by Kinkade?) proves that there actually is
an "original painting" that the artist specifies
as the source of the image copied in the thing
you get.]
Sigh. Certainly makes the most I ever spent for
any one cel look like the little handfuls of
coins I used to dig out of the bottom of my dad's
easy chair. |
