Hi! There are two Mandarake stores in Osaka. One
is a short walk from the Osaka train station.
(This is the best one, in fact, I bought 3 Maison
Ikokku cels here for about 600 yen apiece) It's
in a sort of covered street area. If I where
there to show you I could get there, but afraid I
have no way of giving you exact directions (I
never bothered to learn the street names ^_^;; )
The covered street was fairly close to a video
rental store (the one you see everywhere, um,
Tetsuyas? It started with a 't'...) You know you
are on the right covered street if you pass two
buildings with giant dragon statues coming out of
the side of the buildings. You are really close
to it if you pass a spa with video screens
outside, showing people getting massages, haha).
The Mandarake is pretty far down the street. It
is by far the coolest store I found in all Japan
though. The cels are on the second floor of the
shop (the first floor is all manga).
There is also a newer one in Namba, which you can
get to from osaka station by taking the subway. I
figured out how to get there by taking the subway
to Namba station, and then taking a cab to the
store the first time. Once the cab showed us
where it was we figured out a closer subway stop
(the store is actually two or three subway stops
away from Namaba, once again, I'm afraid I don't
remember the exact name).
Also, there are two different Anime stores in
Kyoto. I think one might be Animate. These don't
carry as many cels, but one of them had a table
with some rather nice selections on it. I
specifcally remember seeing slayers, Inu-Yasha,
and a Black Jack one. I can only give you sketchy
directions to this one as well. We would take the
train to the stop closest to Yasaka (Sp? dude my
memory is lousy) shrine. Then we would walk down
the main street in the direction opposite the
shrine. A little ways down the road we turned
onto a street on the right side. From here there
was another of those little covered roads, and
both Anime stores were in this area. I'm afraid
you'll have to do a bit of exploring to find them
(but in Kyoto, exploring is really fun).
If you want to email me, maybe I can remember
some more stuff that will be a little more
helpful.
(Very jealous you get to live there, I miss that
place ;_; ) |
