For portrait photography, I have found that
people aren't usually fond of extreme close-ups
and don't like it when the head is cut off (by
mistake or in an attempt to be artsy). But for
anime cels, there seems to be a direct
relationship between the size of the face on the
cel and the price, even when part of the head is
missing. Just curious if anyone has thoughts on
why this is generally the case.
Is there something artistically superior to
close-ups that I'm missing? (Fortunately for my
pocketbook I usually prefer cels where more of
the character and the outfit is visible.)
Is it just a function of supply and demand where
many collectors prefer close-ups for a variety
of reasons and are willing to pay quite a bit
extra for them?
Is flesh-tone paint particularly valuable?
Any opinions?
