your cel, like the other 13 cels I’ve seen for
sale from this sequence to date, appear to be
fakes (by fakes, I mean they’re not production
cels). See the comparison to the DVD screen
capture below.
In this sequence on the DVD, there are 8
different profile shots of Belldandy; the 5
profile cels I’ve seen for sale (and have saved
pictures of) all have significant differences
from the video:
1. there are 2 extra hair strands in 8 out of 8
shots on the DVD that are not drawn in any of the
5 cels,
2. there are light areas on the front of
Belldandy’s face in 8 out of 8 shots on the DVD
that are not drawn on any of the 5 cels,
3. this area is see-through in 8 out of 8 shots
on the DVD, but is painted dark brown on 4 out of
the 5 cels,
4. this part of the hair is dark brown on 8 out
of 8 shots on the DVD, but is light brown in all
5 of the cels,
5. this hair crosses behind the other hair in 8
out of 8 shots on the DVD, but crosses in front
of it in all 5 cels,
6. highlights in the hair are noticeably
different between the DVD and the cels in all
cases.
Unlike the reproduction cels from the OVAs, some
of the black lines on the cels (and the drawings
that came with them) don’t match up with those in
the video frames.
On the DVD, there are also about 23 different
shots in this sequence where both of Belldandy’s
eyes can be seen. All 7 cels I’ve seen for sale
from this part of the sequence have several
significant differences from the DVD frames. The
2 cels of Keiichi from this sequence also have
obvious differences from the DVD. I noticed this
problem a couple of weeks ago while I was making
screen captures of my cels (including 3 from this
sequence)… I think the reason this escaped
everyone’s notice is that all these cels went up
for sale around April, 2001, before they could be
checked against the video which hadn’t yet been
released in Japan.
