I have no idea about whether they were done with 
cels or not (I believe this has come up a few 
times, actually), however, here's the answer to 
the above question. The Daft Punk videos were not 
from any "series" in particular...they are an 
original animated story told in video and music 
form. The man responsible for them is the master 
of space opera, Reiji Matsumoto, who's style is 
very recognizable and hwo is responsible for such 
universes/characters as Captain Harlock, Queen 
Emeraldas, Galaxy Express 999, etc. etc. ^^ If 
you like the videos, you'll LOVE his series! I 
heartily suggest you check them out ^^
