Re: I just had this situation appear in real life..Is it you?? (Tue Mar 26 14:25:51 2002 )

I just won an auction on eBay the other day of
a "reproduction" cel of "......" I will leave it
blank for a while, cause this could get caustic!!
To continue...I bid on this cel knowing that it
was not a production cel and made by someone that
is not from the studio of origin. It is a very
good "reproduction" (fancel) to say the least,
although I can tell that some of the coloring and
lining is off. I still think it was wonderfully
done.
Well, low and behold, the original artist of the
cel above emails me (not the seller!) and asks if
his/her signature is still visible, because if
it's not that the person that he/she originally
had submitted the cel for may indeed try to sell
another cel of "----------" as legit. In other
words,there may be another "reproduction"
(fancel) out there with "correct and nearly
flawless" painting applied to it. The concern of
this artist is that if my cel had the signature
missing then there might be a possiblity that the
other cel in question would also have it's
signature missing and that cel might be sold as
a "real" production cel by the person that
auctioned the first cel off to me as a
reproduction cel (test?).
So, this thread has a sour ring to my ears!! I
don't want to drop names, but if this is true
(not established yet) then it would be a big
shocker to many of you indeed. This seller is
very well known (JACML). I will let this
situation work itself out. I will warn you if
there is a need for a "witch hunt", but maybe
this is all just one big misunderstanding for the
moment. I sure hope so. Maybe this is just a
coincidence. I hope for that too.

I have emailed the seller and have asked the
questions relating to the cel, signature, and
concern of the artist and myself. I am waiting
for a reply.
