I just received a few cels from an older movie
(that I've been waiting on for... *sigh* too
long) and was surprised by the way they were
"bagged"...
Basically, these cels were saran-wrapped. They
had several layers of that thin plastic wrap
that attaches itself to anything, well.. plastic.
:P To get the cels out and into a normal bag
required some patient cutting of the layers of
plastic wrap and LOTS of old, yellowing tape.
The plastic wrap was also starting to permanently
attach to the paint, so that look a little TLC to
get it off... not to mention any of the cels
that had layers ALSO had the saran wrap between
the layers (which was a major pain since it
felt like trying to peel tape off of the cel)...
Happily, none of the cels are worse for wear
after spending years in the plastic wrap... but
it made me wonder. What really weird "storage
and safeguarding" techniques have you guys come
across?
(I've known old comic book collectors who used to
store their comics in ZipLoc bags when they were
younger and comic bags weren't available...
but plastic wrap on cels?!? :P)
Peace!
