(And this is of interest to me, because the person
bids on some of the same series I do. Not all, I
looked through their feedback and found things
like a yaoi cel from a series I haven't seen.
But there is some crossover.)
MikaNoNamida is some surfer guy in Long Beach,
California, who got an inheritance when his rich
parents died in a yachting accident. Supposedly
the poor guy needs to buy cels to console his
grief, because otherwise he'd probably turn to
drugs or something (they are plentiful in southern
CA, I lived in Orange County for a few years and
was quite happily... uh, never mind, I was young).
I'm sure many of us would say drugs are cheaper
than cels, and possibly safer in some ways, but
the person I know who at least claims to know
MikaNoNamida told me that his rich parents taught
him that drugs are evil and buying lots of stuff
is The American Way. So he's trying to follow
their advice to honour their now-gone lives.
As to why he seems to speak fluent Japanese... I
was curious about that so I asked our supposed
mutual acquaintance (I think it's real, but since
there are other tales I'm not so sure anymore).
Apparently at one point MikaNoNamida's parents
took in a Japanese exchange student. His good for
nothing brother was sent to Japan in her place,
and never came back. This exchange student was a
big fan of anime and cels, and used to buy a lot
through Yahoo Japan. MikaNoNamida would watch
her, and wound up learning what to leave in
feedback and what to say to sellers and that kind
of thing.
I'm not sure how he gets cels that don't ship
internationally. It might be because he's getting
some help from his good for nothing brother who
still lives there. Supposedly they were rebonded
a little by the deaths of their parents, so they
don't really want to see each other but they do
exchange email from time to time.
I'll probably check into this a little more,
because I'm a nosey person.
