Hi All,
I was just trying to track down an anime I saw
many years ago (back in the early 90s) and it was
probably an 80s anime.
Unfortunately at the time I was in Switzerland,
and hence I don't recall any of the names
(besides which going from Japanese to German and
then to English probably makes them irrelevant
anyway).
But I do recall some of the story, it was a long
series, a little like Star Blazers, set in the
future where a robot civilisation wastaking over
the universe and was setting its sites on Earth.
Earth send out a great battle cruiser, which they
thought was invincible, but was dwarfed by the
robot vessle. Like I said a little like Star
Blazers. Probably of note, and what would
pinpoint the anime best was that the robot
civilisation had its home world on a planet
inhabited by both people and robots, and they
(the robots) had become the dominant species,
they in turn built a massive city, which in times
of need (and of course this occurs in the series)
turns into a floating city (space ship) a little
like a flat disk from memory. Also the size of
the city was dictated by the orriginal creator of
the robot civilisation who crash landed on the
planet and was victimised by the orriginal
inhabitants (so he built robots to seal off a
ring around his home and this in the end became
the limits of the city). From the Earth side (the
good guys) the story mainly centred on a single
guy, and had flashes to the earth ship, which had
only a single memorable character (for me anyway)
who was the chief scientist / guru who was old
and venerable and had a beard down to his knees
(all in white / off white). Anyway the story was
all about the encounter between the robot
civilisation and the main character and later the
massive earth ship (which was dwarfed by the
robot city / ship).
If this rings a bell with anyone could you please
let me know as I would love to see it again. Note
the story may be a little off, it was a while ago
and the translation thing was probably not the
best (my German sucks).
Oh the robots had a lot of other smaller ships
which they generally used to concur the universe,
the floating city however was a novel point in
the anime. |
