I agree with bluehaven. It IS a risk you are
taking by framing the cels. And as far as line
fading w/out light - it can be caused by moisture
(aka. humidity).
I recently had a cel framed, I did it myself (i
work in a store with a frameshop), and I put all
the most archival materials onto it. I used UV
protectant glass, museum matting, artists acid-
free tape, etc. The cel is suspended between the
first and second mat. That is not just for
effect - but also to keep the cel free from
touching the background.
The way I thought about it: I buy these beautiful
pieces of artwork, and hide them in a book. I
want my cels to be seen. And if I frame them with
complete care, and put it in a place where it's
out of direct sunlight - then it can be seen. I
know there is a risk to line fading by having
it "exposed" to light (and moisture) - but then
there's a risk to even buy these things. Cels
were only created to be used for a second (or
milisecond) of a film - and then discarded. I'm
sure everyone on this forum takes well care of
their cels. That's all we can do.
Hehe - don't think i'm running around and
flinging my cels all over - sprawling them out
all over the floor and dancing around them. They
stay very securely in a cel book (with mylar
corners to keep them in place), and I am the
*only* person allowed to flip pages ^_~. I just
think they need to be seen - tis all!
