Re: new to cel collecting---how to store/display? (Fri Feb 1 20:25:52 2002 )

Hey, I'm a guy and own some DBZ cels!

Ok, now on to storing/displaying cels. If you
want to store your cels safely, I suggest each be
in acid free plastic sheets and stored in a
book. I think the plastic sheets should have a
hole or small opening so that the cel is
breathable (why, I have no idea). You should
keep the book/cels away from direct sunlight for
extended periods of time as the sun wears the
paints away. Keeping the cels in dark storage is
the cheapest way to safely store your cels.

If you want to safely frame your cels it's going
to be a bit more costly. When I buy frames for
my cels, I get sun resistant glass, acid free
matting, and have the cel propped up from the
back of the frame (so the paint does not stick).
I believe standard sized cels (9 X 10 1/2)cost me
around $35-$40 and larger cels of course cost
more. Backgrounds may vary the price as well. I
suggest, if possible, you frame them or watch a
professional framer frame them. DON'T let anyone
trim your cels/backgrounds (unless you want them
to), or tape them since warps the cel. Also, if
any paper clips are in the cel they should be
taken out as well.

Also, I've found that I save money when I have
multiple cels in a single fame. If you decide to
do that, make sure you like it b/c that's the way
it's gonna be!

Also, never put your frame in direct sun light
(It's sun resistant glass, not sun proof), keep
them away from hot places, and keep them away
from damp places (such as the shower as moisture
might seep into the frame and ruin your cels).

I hope this has been infromative and helpfull^_^
    John
