Hmmm, what a dilemma.
As a person trained in animation, both 2d and 3d,
it is kind of upsetting to see the pencil
sketches separated from the cels. The sketches
are what comes first. It's what is actually
animated, and thought out, and color coded to
make the final process work. The cels are just
run-offs of the sketches folks. They are a lot
more colorful and pretty most of the time, but
truth be told, the sketches have their own values
too.
Myself, I think it significantly lowers the value
of the cel if the sketch is not included. I have
passed up a dreamcel before simply because of the
cost, and the cel DID NOT come with a sketch. I
loved the cel, but without the drawing, it wasnt
worth the price being asked. I like to have the
two as a set, it just seems right. It's like
having a hamburger, without the bread...sure, the
meat is the REAL part of the burger, but you just
lose something without the bread. It becomes
a 'meat patty' and not a real burger. Ehh, dumb,
I know, but it's sort of similar. Each cel is
made with a sketch, ALWAYS. To have a cel
without the drawing it was made from, to me, is
much less impressive that having them as a set.
Plus, in the pencil drawing...you get to see a
whole lot more detail in the image that you can
with the cel.
So, I dont like the separating of cels and
genga/douga for sales either. In the end, you
still dont make that much cause most collectors
put a high value on having cels come with their
drawings, not sepparated. The idea is also
frowned upon, and will not carry you far with
others. But.....they are your cels and
dougas...so, pay no mind to what people say. They
are yours to sell and deal with as you please. |
