Dear Melissa,
Ouch, that is painful to hear ;_;, yet part of me
believes it isn't that shocking o_O! Looking at
the way Disney stores their artwork in their
archive, I can believe it ;_;! I bought a Disney
mook cel (cel artwork created for a storybook
page) off of Disney's eBay auctions awhile back.
Supposedly everything from Disney's eBay auction
site comes from their archives (and they charge
you a nice $25.00 to un-archive it for you =P!).
Compared to how I receive cel and artwork from
professional dealers, Disney's packaging ranks
near average when it arrived at my house =/.
Moreover, it didn't look like anyone actually
cared about its storage in the archive --; with
loads of non-archival safe scotch tape spanning
the entire huge cel >=(. It took me 2 or so hours
to clean up the mess =b!
My guess is that Disney treats most of its mass
produced artwork (for licensing, products,
promotions, etc.) as industrial waste o_O. I
think (or at least I hope although I have NO
information about this) they treat their movie
production artwork (storyboards, production
drawings, roughs, backgrounds, etc.) with better
care =} since many animators use the archive as
reference for their current work sometimes.
Sigh, well, I hope the Ghibli museum will cleanup
their displays someday =}. I saw a recent display
of Charles Schultz's original strips and drawings,
and all those were framed or under glass for care.
Sincerely,
Sonia |
