It's so completely pathetic. I don't watch much
TV, but when I do, I *tape* it so I can zap the
ads instead of having to watch them. (You get
EIGHT minutes of ads in only a half hour show -
and in a two hour movie block, you'll see FORTY
minutes. That's even up from when I was taping
Inspector Gadget as a kid - there were only six
and change minutes of ads to a half-hour show
then.)
But where the net is concerned, you have a whole
nother side to it. It takes *time* to download
this crap that you don't want. When I'm reading a
post here on Yann's Forum or the Anime Chaos
site, I scroll the banner ads off the screen as
soon as the page is loaded. If I ever had to
waste my time downloading and watching an ad to
be able to get into a website, I wouldn't bother
either waiting or returning.
In a way, it's like the advertisements you get on
fax machines - do you realize that ads we throw
out are responsible for wasting 15-20 pieces of
*our* paper PER DAY where I work?? Not to mention
INK, which is very expensive. When are the
advertisers going to come and repay us for that?
When will they repay the *environment* as well?
Advertisers suck.
