I would have carfully bent back the staples, 
removed the staples, then separated the 
layers.... but if I were tired I'd probably do 
the same thing you did.  ^_^;  I'm relieved that 
the damage wasn't any worse than that. Once, I 
broke off one of the registration holes on one of 
my Miaka cels when I tried to remove tape after 
only 4 hours of sleep.  -_-;;;

I can't wait to see your MEGA update!  I just put 
up 4 myself (2 utena and 2 anc) and should have 
the other half of my Taro booty by the weekend or 
Monday. Yip.  ^_^
