Here's some musings from a relative newcomer to
cel-collecting:

There's the possibility that someone could take a
scan that didn't belong to them and scam people
out of money by 'selling' a cel they don't own on
eBay or elsewhere. I haven't been in the hobby
very long, but I get the impression that this has
happened enough times in the past that it is a
real concern.

I don't see how having your cel scans plastered
on a bunch of websites would increase a cel's
value. The popularity of the show or particular
scene a cel is from will have an impact on it's
price, but does an individual cel have 'fame'
independent of the show? I would think that the
quality of the cel itself (which is of course
subjective), in additon to the fame of the
*show,* would be more of a factor in value than
whether it was on 1 website or 200.

And what is value, anyway? If you're
auctioning/selling a cel, then having many people
see it can increase your potential customer
base...I guess in an auction this could increase
the 'value' by having more people drive up the
bid prices. But that's more about advertising
the fact that the cel is *for sale* than just
having people see your cel on a random website.
If a cel is in your personal gallery and it's
your favorite and you don't plan to part with it,
having people see it won't increase its monetary
value.

And if you don't plan on selling on a cel,
perhaps part of its value, besides just the
personal enjoyment of having it, comes from
having it as a unique additon to your cel gallery
and a reason for people to visit your page. If
it's posted all over the internet, than this type
of 'value' is lost.

I'm rambling, so I'll stop. But I hope this
makes some sense...it's nearly 4am and I should
be in bed asleep.
