Is there any sort of FAQ available on appropriate
methods of shipping cels to ensure their safe
arrival? Is there any sort of "hobby standard"
for shipping methods? I know that there have
been horror story threads posted here in the past
about poorly packaged cels, and perhaps some of
the problem could be solved if there was a
comprehensive page about what packaging is
considered acceptable by collectors, links to
order free supplies from the US postal service
(any free supply delivery like this for other
countries?), and whatnot. Perhaps with some sort
of graphic that auction sellers could include in
their auctions to reassure their bidders that
they package and ship their cels according to the
FAQ.
It seems to me that if you're shipping by
priority mail in the US, and the cardboard boxes
are available *free* and can even be delivered
*free* to *your home* there isn't too much excuse
for bad packaging. Is it just not well known you
can get the supplies for free?
This came to mind because I bought a cel off eBay
a while back which wasn't packaged well, although
it survived. It was in one of the thin cardboard
priority envelopes inside two of the Tyvek ones,
and had "do not bend" in ONE place in tiny
letters. I found the envelope rolled up in my
small mailbox. >_<
Then just today my friend received a $100 cel
from another eBay seller, and it was in a Tyvek
priority envelope, with one piece of cardboard
which was smaller than the cel. (This is, of
course, in addition to the cel being sent out a
few weeks late and not insured, though she paid
for insurance...)
I'm too busy at the moment to make a shipping FAQ
myself (and I'm sure that there are plenty of
people out there far more knowledgeable than me
on the subject), but if no one else wants to,
I'll try to put something together once I have
some more time.
