Hi, Anon. I changed the subject of this post not
only to honor Yann's request, but also because I
think you're leaving quite a few people out of
the Y!J equation if you just limit this to Celga
users.
Not only are there several other deputy services
that folks use to place their bids, many have
contacts in Japan or buy from sellers who ship
internationally and bid directly. Also, when we
talk about Y!J here, I think we tend to think in
terms on our little community of English speaking
collectors as being the competition. I think we
often forget to consider a very important cel
collecting group--the Japanese! The Japanese like
cels too. The Japanese have money to spend too.
And they can be just as enthusiastic (ahem,
rabid) about their hobbies as everyone else.
But anyway, getting to your question. I know this
isn't what you want to hear, but Y!J can get
pretty ugly when it comes to Cowboy Bebop. The
series is still very popular in Japan, and with
the upcoming movie release this summer, interest
will only increase. So, you're not just competing
against "us," but Japanese collectors too. I've
seen "average" shots of Faye go for between
30,000 yen to 55,000 yen. Recently, a cel of
shirtless Spike sold for 77,000 yen (if memory
serves). I can't speak for Kenshin, since I don't
collect that series, however, I would imagine the
Y!J climate to be simliar.
I myself will be content when I can find one nice
Faye cel at a decent price. Then I can go into
Bebop collecting semi-retirement!
