Hello,

I recently acquired a cel and had a question 
about the sketch that accompanied it.  Basically 
the sketch only has plus signs on the page (see 
picture) surrounding where the bunny is but the 
sketch has no bunny. In other words, I have a 
sketch with no bunny when I bought the cel but 
instead I got a page with plus signs in its 
place.  What does the plus signs mean or what 
purpose does it serve?  

Someone once told me that x's or plus signs are 
to prevent animators from painting in an area, 
however this doesn't make sense since the x or 
plus signs are the only things on the page. 

Maybe someone out there who saw the anime might 
be able to clarify the purpose of the plus signs? 
Maybe a special effect for another cel I don't 
have?
