Sure, if you are willing to sponsorize an Alpha
server with U-Wide SCSI3 disks, no problem...
But I can't afford this kind of computer right now
and the one I use is simply not powerful enough.
It doesn't take time to load the page : it takes
time to calculate all the recursive threads.
No problem when one person ask a page : It may
takes 2 or 3 seconds... But if others people ask
pages during that time, it just put more and more
load on the server and it takes more and more time
to finish processing... so they just pill-up,
taking 10MB of ram each, eating all the CPU...
That's not good at all...
Did you read the first message I posted ? Check
the number of articles in 1 archive and the number
of MB of the database...
If the forum was not threaded, like most boards
around, I could virtualy keep any numbers of
messages in the DB. My software is good enough for
that. But when you have to which message should go
under which one and there is more than 40000 of
them...
Cheers,
Yann Stettler
PS: And naturaly, every so often there is an index
robot software that try to read the whole stuff,
opening hundreds of connections simultanously.
