It could possibly be that Customs was checking 
your package in San Francisco, so it technically
hasn't "arrived" in SF to be available for 
distribution by the US tracker, but it "arrived" 
in SF as far as the Japanese tracker was 
concerned. That's why EMS packages take a week 
instead of two days =) *argh*
