I wish I could go into more detail. ^_^; You'll
laugh if I tell you there's a magic button on the
controls in my scanning software, but literally,
there is a button marked with a magic wand. When
I was scanning something, I got bored and just
pushed the button to find out what it did. (Good
thing I don't work at the Pentagon, ne? ^_~)
Anyhow, it is a button to automatically adjust
the contrast, tone, and brightness to optimal
levels.
If it's any help, what it usually did was this:
In the program you have a master color channel
but you can also individually adjust the contrast
of the different primary colors (red, green,
blue) and what it did was to readjust the
contrast on those each (usually by increasing the
contrast). The effect generated can't be
replicated by simply increasing the contrast on
the "master" channel, you have to use (well, the
computer always uses) the individual color
channels so that it balances the colors with each
other and you don't wind up with a strong color
in the douga washing out a lighter one.
I hope that makes some sense. That's as best as I
can understand it right now - I haven't had time
to investigate it further. All I really know at
the moment is that I found that button and
pushing it suddenly made all my douga scans come
out right. ^_^
