UV glass protection. . . (Sun Sep 3 22:43:57 2000 )

Well, who knows if the store used UV protective
glass or not? Personally, I would guess that they
are NOT. I know there's a store near me here in
Boston that has two poor cels framed on it's
wall. . . They, too, are like Lady Zatara said
she had seen with the ones near her. But then the
store here also has flourescant lighting (although
no sunlight could ever reach to where they're
hanging) - and you have to remember that
flourescant lighting is one of the **WORST**
types of lighting under which to hang a cel. It
will wreck the same damage that sunlight will,
only I suspect, possibly faster than sunlight
would.

I have my two cels framed under UV glass. I also
keep them out of *any* sunlight (direct or
reflected) and the only flourescant light I own
is the one on my fishtank (which is under a
closed hood and shines directly into the water).
I have seen no trace line damage. (I have ultra
close up scans of the cels, made when I bought
them and I make sure to compare the scan to the
cel at least once a month.) However, neither cel
has been framed for any signifigant amount of
time. (One has only been framed since the end of
June.)

One thing I can say about the warping. . . I did
a little test with my cel of Keith. I opened up
the frame and sliced down the spacer to as narrow
a size as would still provide sufficient support.
What this did is, where formerly, the edges of
the cel were sandwiched between the spacer and
the mat, they are now completely free inside the
frame. (The cel is held to the mat only by four
acid-free corners and a single small piece of
archival tape at the very top center to help
prevent sagging.) This cleared up the warping
which had started to reappear as it's decently
warm and very humid today. If the warping stays
cleared up, only a bit of time will tell.

But I still recommend keeping your cels in a cel
book. I hear you, Lady Z on not needing to show
them off for other people. I have no one else
around who really appreciates cels either. . .
But I've gotten so additcted to walking out in
the morning and being greeted by my OP cel of
Keith!! ^_^ ^_^ (*laugh*)

Many Sharp Smiles,
