Thanks for all the feedback! =^_^= I'm really
glad people like it. ^_^ I'll try to answer all
the questions, but note that I worked until
midnight last night and had to get up to go back
to work at 6:30 this morning. . . So if I forget
something or am incoherent, you know why. @_@ ^_^
How long did it take? I'm not sure, but at
*least* ten hours. (Not counting time spent
waiting for paint to dry. *yawn* ^_^;)
The lines: The black lines were all lazer printed
onto the acetate. (Thankyou Kinko's!) This didn't
make things as easy as it sounds since I had to
do a *LOT* of cleaning up of stray bits of toner.
All the colored lines (that divide the different
shades of the same color) were hand-painted by
me. The painted lines were the trickiest and the
main thing I learned is that the viscosity of the
paint is the key. Too thin and you see right
through it. Too thick and it doesn't go on
smoothly enough to create an even line. o_0 In
short, it's a complete pain in the @$$. ^_~;;
The design: The characters in the image are from
the anime Ai no Kusabi (done by AIC). This
magazine was one of a lot of June magazines I won
off Yahoo Japan that had Ai no Kusabi articles in
them. In one of the articles there was a very
small basic outline of the cover drawing - like a
douga, only without the shading indicators. This
is what I enlarged and had printed onto the
acetate. I *was* going to try doing the black
lines myself too, but thought it better to take
the shortcut. (Besides the image needed to be
resized anyway.)
Layering the paint: There's only one thing to
really keep in mind - think about what is "in
front". If the things in the image were sitting
right in front of you, which parts would be
physically closest? Which things lay over others?
I did the handcuffs before I did Riki's arms
(underneath them). Also, most of Riki was done
before Iason (the blond character) because he's
in front. The only major place I varied from this
was that I painted the red of Iason's shirt proir
to the cape because the cape was so much lighter.
(I didn't want to lay the dark colors behind the
light ones too much since the paints I used -
Liquitex Arcrylics - are *not* actual cel paints,
and they show through a tiny bit.)
I think I got it all there. ^_^ And I'm still
looking forward to see what you do with the
acetate, Emika!!!! ^_^ (Same with the others who
split the acetate package with me. ^_^)
Now I better sleep some before I fall over into
my keyboard. . . (*ZZZZzzzzzzzz......*)
Many Sharp Smiles,
