Firstly, great site design. Thumbnails are great - 
(they shouldn't get into the double-digits [k]). 
The graphic optimization is fine - as for your
friend's suggestion, since your pics aren't huge
anyway (e.g. 1024x768 @ 300K), I don't think you'd
need the extra info on K per image. Graphic-based
galleries follow slightly different "rules" than
e-commerce sites, the upper limit on weight is 
more flexible, but should still be reasonable. I 
really like your site. You have the user in mind-
