Yeah, I thought last year's AX charity auction was okay, 
most items were ended at fair bids.  But this year is
totally crazy, many items are way too over-bidded.  I know,
the money goes for the charity, but still, $750 for a Trigun
Wallscroll!  $16000 for a Madoka painting!!!  Basically,
most color drawings by the Guest of Honor ended up over 1000
bucks in average.  Obviously, it's more cheaper to bid on
something at smaller cons than larger cons.  Anyway, I think
there're too many rich people in AX this year, many of them
probably cashed out their stock options to buy stuffs.  You
know, some of them work for those high tech companies in
Silicon Valley, they have tons of money to bid on anything.
